The author notes cedar waxwings dark brown crested birds feeding on crab apples near the Orlie Miller driveway. They count a large flock seen in a tree, then many apples and birds vanish by Sunday as the waxwings depart, leaving a brief park-like memory.
Mr. and Mrs. Lennis Lind were Monday evening guests of Mr. Will Steele to celebrate his 88th birthday. Ed Coover visited Alma Oliver and Esther Johnson at Merrick Manor in Central City. Mary Monson visited the Don Herbig family in Aurora Saturday. The Swede Plain MYF held a bowling party in Central City Sunday night.
Gov Norbert Tiemann appears in Polk Saturday April 18 from 2 15 to 3 15 p m with Mayor Dean Meyers and Easter Seal Child on hand to greet him He plans to speak from the bandstand about 230 p m weather permitting. Republican women serve coffee after the talk. Dwight Burney and Glen Babcock coordinate arrangements.
Friday April 24 set for kindergarten registration for the 1970 71 term. Letters to parents are being mailed this week and extra letters will be sent on request. Visitation is at 9 00 with registration in the school gym from 9 45 to 10 30 and coffee and rolls served. Mrs Wayne Tyler begins her seventh year as Polk kindergarten teacher.
Mrs Philip Meline joined Mrs Julia Flodman for coffee Saturday morning. Mr and Mrs Ed Coover visited in the Roy Miller home in York Monday afternoon. Vance Stohl of Lincoln spent the weekend with his parents Mr and Mrs Walter Stohl.
A sequence of 1969 to 1970 local court entries lists defendants including Leslie Minton Susan Shaw Richard Studley Larry Wozney Keith Brazda Lauren Glasser Ronald Meerkatz Larry Anderson and Terry Van Housen. Violations cover disturbing the peace and speeding with fines and costs recorded for Polk Osceola and Nevada districts.
Nebraska for A Better World leaders met in Osceola on April 10 with county agencies social groups and youth to plan a coordinated weed patch cleanup in Polk County. April 22 was designated Swat Pot Day with planting native grasses and a countywide picnic at Buckley Park after the work along Blue River banks and roads.
Dwight Neil Doremus and Donna Marie Doremus, children of Francis and unnamed mother, died April 4 1970. Dwight born October 20 1944 Stromsburg Nebraska. Donna born August 3 1946 Stromsburg Nebraska. They were baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and attended Hardy and Stromsburg public schools. Survived by parents, two brothers Donald and Duane, paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs WM Blender, and extended family. The notice includes a religious verse about faith and mercy.
Park Avenue Birthday Club met at Mrs. Oscar Sundberg's home on Friday April 10. Ten members attended a brief business session. Mrs Parker Aker was honored for her birthday and received a gift. Lunch was served by the hostess.
