Pioneer of Union George Hathaway Dies After Stroke
George Lester Hathaway, longtime Union resident and pioneer, died at his Cass County home after a five day illness following a stroke. Born March 24, 1852 in Crown Point Indiana, he came to Nebraska at age five and lived on his Union area farm for more than 30 years. He leaves seven children, sixteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and his sister. funeral at Union Baptist Church led by Rev. W A Taylor, with interment at East Union cemetery.

Survivor recalls 1869 survey party massacre tale
Buxton McGregor, now in Chicago and Pontiac, recounts being the sole surviving member of Nelson Buck’s surveying party from 1869. The group, which included teamsters, was largely killed by Indians after boasting of killing a Sioux scout. McGregor and another youth waited at Fort Kearney for a promised escort, while the rest were slain. The survivor later left surveying for wood hauling and cattle driving, returning east via Plattsmouth.

Bandits’ Car Laden With Weapons Recovered Near Barrows
A Hupmobile coupe wrecked near Barrows filling station held a cache of arms. Sherif Homer Sylvester recovered two .45 revolvers a .38 revolver machine gun parts two bulletproof vests and nails to hinder pursuit. The car and loot were brought to the city jail for safekeeping as a manhunt for Floyd Miller and Underhill intensified across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Illinios Tourists Involved In Red Ball Highway Crash
A car carrying Illinois tourists overturned on the Red Ball highway south of Murdock. The vehicle traveled west, rolled about sixty feet, and the occupants were shaken but not fatally hurt. Rex Young and J H Ruhman arrived, freed the injured, and took them to Murdock for initial care before transfer to Lincoln for examination. The car was to be repaired in Murdock.

Platte River Bottoms search for Bandits after Dammast car found
A posse of hundreds searched the Platte River bottom area after Donald Dammast of Nebraska City reported his car stolen by bandits Thursday night and abandoned near Cullom. Otto Petereit located the car and Sheriff Homer Sylvester led a hunt along Burlington tracks and around Louieville to Gibson with aid from state and city officers. Traces showed the bandits moved through cornfields toward possible hiding spots south of the Platte, and authorities feared they might lay low and attempt an escape once the search subsides.
