Eighth Grade Promotional Exercises Held in Cass County

The 1939 eighth grade class of Cass county schools held a ceremony Saturday at the Congregational church in Weeping Water. 124 pupils were to be promoted, 101 attended, with musical numbers, a rhythm band demonstration, and diplomas presented by Lora Lloyd Kieck.

County Court Proceedings Finalize Several Estates

Final settlements were approved in the estates of C. Lawrence Stull with Frank A. Cloidt as administrator, Edna S. Binger with Evelyn Wolph executrix, and Gertrude S. Wolph. Heirship was determined in T. S. Clif ford’s estate. An administrator DBN was appointed for Hannah Penn due to Judge W. C. Rateliff’s death. Lester A. Westerland named administrator for J. F. Wortman's estate. Wortman’s Oregon estate valued at 42000 including Case county land.

Miss Bernadine Graham Undergoes Tonsil and Adenoids Operation

Miss Bernadine Graham daughter of Mr and Mrs John Graham of Louisville underwent a tonsillectomy and adenoids operation Tuesday afternoon at Dr L S Puce lis office. She came through the ordeal in very good condition and was taken to the home of Mr and Mrs Orville Kintz to recuperate.

Five Omaha Scouts Escape Minor Injuries in Highway Wreck

A Sunday wreck south of the city on highway 75 near the Charles E. Cook farm involved several cars returning from a picnic at Arbor Lodge. One vehicle struck a concrete spillway while passing and overturned. five scouts and the driver were shaken but uninjured aside from minor scratches.

Funeral Service for Elva Patterson Draws City Nears

Hundreds of Elva Olson Patterson’s friends and life long associates filled Sattler Funeral Home for a Monday afternoon service led by Dr. H G McClusky of First Presbyterian Church. Hymns by Mrs. Gladys Glaze and Miss Fern Jahrig, with E H Wescott on piano, preceded burial at Oak Hill Cemetery beside her mother. Pallbearers included Earl Taylor Robert Vallery Norris Hennings John Urish Robert Slavicek and Alvin Johnson.

Hirz Slavicek Wedding Revealed to Family in Plattsmouth

The April 20 ceremony in Blair Nebraska united Miss Jeanette Hirz and Mr Robert Slavicek before Judge John A Carrigan. Both families and local friends celebrated after two earlier surprise weddings in Plattsmouth within two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. William Ainsworth Robertson and children depart for two weeks visiting Annapolis Maryland for the United States Naval Academy graduation. They will stop in Hagerstown Maryland with cousins Mr and Mrs J R R Black. James M Robertson II, son of the Robertsons, is in the Naval Academy class set to graduate.

The Merchants baseball team hosts Humboldt next Sunday at Athletic Park. Humboldt is described as a fast Nebraska organization with a balanced lineup. Merchants boast strong hitting and fielding with pitchers Thimgan Thierolf and Sedlak. local coach Jacobs may miss the game after a recent operation.

Comstock Returns From Vesta Nebraska

Cecil W. Comstock returned home from Vesta Nebraska where he has been teaching for the last year. He has had a successful year and has been re elected as teacher and principal of Vesta high school. He will teach history English typing and dramatics next year. He plans summer study at the University of Nebraska. He is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J C Comstock of our city.

Local Leaders Day Set for 4-H in Lincoln

4 H club leaders may attend a special program on May 29 opening Boys and Girls Club Week in Lincoln. Local Leaders Day runs 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and aims to inspire 4 H clubs and extend public involvement in county programs. Cass county leaders are urged to attend if possible.

Guilty Plea in County Court for Illegal Fishing

Monday afternoon in the county court Zene Denman and Robert Martin of Omaha were arraigned on illegal fishing on William A Metzger’s farm without owner permission. They pled guilty, Judge A H Duxbury imposed a 25 dollar fine plus costs, suspended on good behavior. costs paid and parties released.

Local Resident Improves After Operation in Omaha Visit

Byron Galland and family, with Mrs. H. D. Everett of Union, visited Omaha Sunday to see Mrs. Galland resting after an operation. They report quick improvement and expect her to return home by Friday if progress continues.

Fractured Leg Suffered by Local Youth

Charles Martin son of Mr and Mrs Walter Martin residing south of the city fractured his left leg Sunday morning at the farm. He was bucked from a horse in the barnyard and kicked, breaking the leg below the knee. He was taken first to Dr L S Pucelik and then to St Joseph Hospital in Omaha.

Rotary luncheon hears fish tale from Minnesota trip

Rotary members heard Carl Ofe describe a Minnesota lakes fishing outing with Fred Lugsch Carl Schneider and Rudolph Iverson. The group reported excellent fishing a fine outing and a nice catch of game fish. Robert M. Walling spoke about the intercity meeting at Glenwood where many from the city attended and enjoyed a strong program.

Becker Returns Home After Hospital Nose Bleed

H. E. Becker, treated at Clarkson hospital in Omaha for several days due to a severe nose hemorrhage, returned home Saturday. He will be kept quiet at home for a few days and doctors hope for no serious aftereffects.

Trespass Reported at Metzger Farm Near Cedar Creek

Deputy Sheriff E. J. Doody investigated two men found at the Metzger farm near Cedar Creek. The Omaha residents entered the farm and fished without permission and allegedly blocked cattle from water. Charges expected to be filed this afternoon.

Birth of Son to Mr and Mrs Russell Arnold

Mr and Mrs Russell Arnold of Union are the parents of an eight pound boy born at the home of Mrs Arnold's parents, Mr and Mrs H W Griffin in Union. Mrs Arnold is the former Miss Bila Griffin and the baby is a grandson of Mr and Mrs Virgil Arnold of this city. Both mother and son are doing fine.

Baccalaureate Services Held Sunday Evening

The First Presbyterian church hosted the baccalaureate service for Plattsmouth High School’s class of 1923 with 72 seniors in attendance. Pastor J C Lowson delivered a motivational sermon on excellence amid modern competition, as the Methodist choir led music and Wilbur Hall performed a solo.
