The Plattsmouth city schools close for summer with the senior class presenting their play on Tuesday May 9 at the Platz theatre. Baccalaureate services follow on the Sunday before graduation exercises set for Thursday evening May 25 marking the commencement of the class of 1933.
A seven pound daughter arrived at St. Catherine's hospital in Omaha last evening for Mr. and Mrs. Lon Henry of the city. The baby arrived at 10 30 and both mother and child are doing nicely. The family now has a son and daughter. The baby is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mullen of this city.
The waterways committee of the Omaha Chamber presses Washington for national public works to develop the Missouri River into a navigable stream. They emphasize low shipping costs for Middle West crops and raw materials, and argue river work would employ many workers while widening the channel.
Many residents visit the court house as enlistment day approaches for a six month government funded forest reforestation program. Eligible are unmarried men with dependents aged 1 to 25, sent to forest camps under army officers for trails, roads, tree planting and related work in national reserves and parks. Nebraskans to be sent to camps outside the state due to no local forestry计划.
Fire crews were called Thursday afternoon to the Burlington area after a small blaze started on the cab of a construction derrick as a train crossed the Burlington bridge. The fire was put out with no damage reported by the time the train arrived at the nearby station.
The First Presbyterian church will observe its diamond jubilee from April 30 to May 7. Since 1858 Plattemouth has built a large congregation now numbering 412, with 150 new members added in the last year under Pastor Rev. H. G. McClusky. Dr. Larimore C. Denise will preach the anniversary sermon.
Work planned on Highway 24 starting a mile east of the Nehawka corner after two five hour shifts. The Yant Construction Co will hire Cass county workers with about sixty days to complete the project pending suitable weather. Grading and some culverts were completed last year and this spring.
VISITS IN THE CITY Friday's Cal C F Harris of Union spent a few hours in the city for business and to visit old friends. He has long suffered from an old injury after being run over years ago and now requires medical treatment and a cane to move about. Friends hope the former commissioner will recover and resume activities soon.
The announcement from Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Yelick records the birth of a daughter named Mary Ree at their home in Wymore. The child, a granddaughter of James and an unnamed Yelick couple, is reported to be doing well along with the mother, formerly Mary Eastwood, a former local teacher.
Fort Crook in Nebraska prepares to receive 2750 draftees for a forestation program. The Omaha contingent, about 494 men, works on sheds and warehouses and builds walks while undergoing calisthenics and fitness training. Trucks haul materials for outfitting ahead of six months of service.
The junior high track meet at Athletic Park featured strong showings from younger athletes. Eighth graders won with 55 percent of points. events included Forbes and Dasher in multiple wins and distances, with top placers in sprints, jumps, and throws.
The Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce retail section schedules a new Merchants Gift Night with separate awards for local residents and shoppers from Cass Cass county Sarpy or Mills counties. Out of town participants receive equal chances to win. The change debuts this coming Wednesday night.
The Woman's Foreign Missionary society of the Methodist church held a Mystery Mother event for the Standard Bearer class. Mothers and daughters enjoyed a rainbow themed dinner with program notes and a speaker Miss Freda Hughes who shared missionary experiences in China.
The House adopted the Mc Reynolds resolution to vest power rights on the St Lawrence waterway project with New York state in a voice vote.
Judge James T. Begley set the judgment for Amos Hrabik in the paternity case. The maintenance for the child is fixed at 1500 dollars to be paid at 10 dollars per month until the total is discharged.
Youths filled the Cass county courthouse registration to join the forestation forces. Attorney J A Capwell, County Commissioner J A Pitt, and County Clerk George R Sayles oversaw the process. Names will be sent to Lincoln for selection and eventual training at Fort Crook before deployment to forestation camps. Applicants aged 18 to 25 seek depen dents and will allot two thirds of a 330 dollar monthly pay to cover living costs while government Provides camp facilities and medical aid. The list return from Lincoln is awaited before preliminary training.
The St Marys Guild and the Woman’s Auxiliary of St Luke’s Episcopal church held a joint Thursday gathering at Mrs R A Bates home. Eleanor Sprague educational secretary of the diocese spoke on church activities while Canon Potter explained church customs. A luncheon was served by the hostesses with help from Mrs John E Schutz.
The marriage of Miss Doris Elvira Lyons of Central City Nebraska and Clyde Maynard Long of El Cajon California took place Friday afternoon at St Pauls Evangelical church parsonage. Rev O G Wichmann officiated with Mrs Martha Zimmerman and Dr A Rosencrans as witnesses. The couple departed for Omaha after the ceremony.
Covert and Hulse, two youths, slipped away from the county jail after gaining access with a screwdriver. They were captured later on the highway between Nebraska City and Hamburg, Iowa, while en route to Shenandoah. Sheriff’s deputies placed both back in custody to investigate the break and potential charges.
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Brooks of Burlington arrived for an overnight in Des Moines with J. W. Crabill family. Brooks attended a meeting of Iowa school superintendents on the financial crisis. Burlington schools have about 100000 dollars tied up in closed banks, hindering operations. State loans may release funds to cities and districts.
The international bridge olympics will involve about 103000 players in 1370 games across 54 countries. Hands are prepared by contract bridge enthusiasts and sealed on a large board before play begins. Plattsmouth hosts the event at Mrs. B. J. Richey's home with many planning to attend.
