School Levy to Rise for District No 1 in Incoming Year
The district No 1 board voted to raise the levy from sixteen to seventeen and a quarter mills to cover school upkeep and management costs. They plan a new stairway at Central Landing during summer, exterior painting for Columbian Wintersteen and Mercerville buildings, and redecorating of high school halls and entry. Janitor supplies contract was awarded to Jess F Varga, hardware as the lowest bidder.

Funeral of Youth Lee Capper Observed at First Methodist
A large crowd filled the First Methodist church Monday for the funeral of 14 year old Lee Capper who died in Omaha. Rev J C Lawson delivered the eulogy and Mrs E H Wescott sang two hopes filled hymns with Mr Wescott at the organ. A guard of honor from the American Legion drum and bugle corps escorted the casket to Oak Hill cemetery with pallbearers Allan White Stephen Devoe Billy Robertson Cary Marshall James Mauzy and Joe York drawn from the drum corps and Sunday school. The Sattler funeral home conducted the services and the interment was at Oak Hill cemetery.
