Memorial Services Held for Nation’s Heroic Dead
Sunday evening at the First Christian Church a community memorial service honored local servicemen and women who died for the nation. The event was organized by Hugh J. Kearns Post American Legion with Auxiliary, WRC, and DAR participation. Featured were color guards, solos, a keynote by W C Rathke, and tributes from Legion and Auxiliary members. The audience sang America and The Star Spangled Banner before a closing benediction by Rev J C Lawson.

Farmers Go on Record Against Conservation
A large turnout of landowners and tenants gathered at Manley town hall to discuss forming a soil conservation district in central and northern county. Dr. G E Condra from the University of Nebraska conservation department spoke on erosion prevention and land value protection. The group favored many conservation ideas but opposed sections of the law on tree and crop planting, and the proposed district plan was dropped by the organizing body.

This week the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis graduates its class of 1929. Ensign James McIntosh Robertson SI, son of Attorney and Mrs. W. A. Robertson of Plattsmouth, is among the duty commissioned graduates. Robertson, born May 24 1916 in Plattsmouth, is the first local youth to graduate from the naval or military academy.

Death Claims a Former Plattsmouth Resident on West Coast
Joseph Vetesnek a former Plattsmouth resident aged 70 died Monday at 3 39 pm at his Tacoma Washington home after a period of declining health. He grew up here joined Andrew Kroehler in a local hardware business before moving west to Great Falls Montana then Washington where he resided. He is survived by his widow two sons Robert of Tacoma and Michael in South America two brothers A W Vetesnek of Omaha Michael of Plattsmouth and sisters Mrs Joseph Holly and Mrs Joseph Libershal of Plattsmouth. Funeral services are to be held in Tacoma tomorrow morning with brother Michael en route to attend.

Fractured Arm Suffered In Granite Street Crash
Marvin McCoy a 13 year old boy riding east on Granite street collided with a southbound car on Chicago avenue. He suffered a double fracture of the left forearm and received first aid before being taken to Omaha for hospital treatment by Dr. W S Eaton and Dr. Herman Johnson.

Porter proves scholastic top form at Tarkio College
Stuart Porter of Plattsmouth Tarkio college star in football and track received second scholastic honors in a class of forty for four years of college work at the Tarkio College commencement. He totaled 115 hours of A grades, earned four varsity letters, and was a debate team member and Skulls of Seven member. He played tackle then fullback, earned all conference honors, and starred in track with conference titles in shot put and discus. Porter majored in chemistry and mathematics and hopes for graduate study in industrial chemistry.
