D A R Tea Event at Fontenelle Chapter Meeting

Fontenelle chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a 6 o'clock tea at Mrs. F. R. Gobelman home. Officers were elected for the coming year. Delegates and guests from Glenwood and Omaha attended, including state regent E H Wescott and pages Vestetta Robertson. The chapter plans support for a local student award and will host the district conference in September at Fort Crook.

Omaha visitor renews subscription for local widow

Mrs B B Gilbert of Omaha visited the Journal to renew the subscription of Mrs John Jess widow of her late brother John Jess. She spent time in the city attending to business and decorating the family lot at the cemetery.

Young Couple Wed During Whitman Trip

Friday evening Mr and Mrs Jas Bierl accompanied Donald Harris to Whitman Nebraska to bring home Miss Theresia who just finished a year teaching in the sandhills. After the school picnic on Sunday they left for home and were married en route.

Plattsmouth Rotary Hosts Evening Honoring Rotary Anns

The Plattsmouth Rotary Club hosted a dinner and social evening in honor of their Rotary Anns. A musical program featured the Rotary orchestra with Jeager Schulhof Hiatt Davis Wescott and Cloidt. Dr Luther Kuhns of Omaha spoke on Korea and Asiatic life. Edgar Wescott of Omaha attended as a guest.

Summerfield School Head Visits Patterson Family in City

Walter Biggs superintendent of schools at Summerfield Kansas visited the city over Sunday as a guest of his former school mate R Foster Patterson and family. He came to see Dr and Mrs Samuel J Patterson of Morriston Arkansas who are visiting their son and family here.

Eighth Grade Promotional Held Here Saturday

The Cass county eighth grade promotion took place at the Ritz theatre with about 400 students parents and teachers in attendance Miss Alpha Peterson led the program which featured musical numbers speeches and diplomas Thelma Miller and the D A R presented awards and six students earned 99 grades while three others held 98 in penmanship followed by a motion picture "Around the World in 80 Minutes."

Red Sox Open Season With Overtime Victory

Plattsmouth Red Sox opened the season at Athletic Field in a fast, thrilingly contested game. Del Sylvester starred with a homer and winning run in the eighth as the Sox rallied to beat the Athletics 6 to 5 after leading 4 to 2 and then 5 to 4. Newman held the late rally in the ninth, securing the win.

Feeling Improved Officer Returns Toward Duty

Officer David Pickrel, once sidelined by a bout of mumps, is feeling better and able to be up and around. He is not back on duty yet but his friends are pleased he is regaining strength after a severe illness.

Wasley Completes Year at Superior Montana School

Russell Wasley returned home to Superior Montana to spend his vacation with his parents and old friends. His basketball team won twenty one games last season and he was re elected as manual training teacher and athletic coach promising greater success next year.

Mynard Club Hosts Vaudeville Night With Five Acts

Mynard Community Club held a May 26 meeting featuring five vaudeville acts and the East Side program committee. Acts included a family car farce with Myron Wiles family, Edna Covert impersonations, magician L S Devoe with Judge Duxbury, a second one act farce In 1950 by Raymond Cook, and a blackface routine by Wayne Bennett. The Mynard community orchestra of ten pieces conducted by James Smith provided interludes.

Four Mile Community club holds guest day event

The Four- Mile Community club hosted a May 23 guest day at Mrs. Hugh Stander’s home. Members sang patriotic songs, played games, discussed club work, and planned a June picnic while many visitors attended and complimented the afternoon with refreshments served by members.

Confer Degree on Rev H G McClusky Today

Hastings College conferred the Doctor of Divinity on Rev. H. G. McClusky of Plattsmouth for outstanding civil and religious work. He has led the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsmouth since 1914 and is a New York native educated there and at Park College, Parkville Missouri.

Seminary Confers Honorary Degrees on Clergy and Educator

The Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Princeton, N J awarded honorary degrees to clergy and educators. Dr McClusky, longtime pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth for nineteen years, previously led Laurel church for seven years. Luther E Stein of Fresno received Doctor of Divinity and Albert Allison Reed of Nebraska earned Doctor of Laws.

Young couple wed at Methodist church in Plattsmouth

Miss Margaret Wanda Lahoda and Mr. Hubert Dew were married Sunday afternoon in a quiet ceremony at the parsonage with Rev. C. C. Troy officiating. The couple will reside at the bride’s home and begin housekeeping.
