Funeral of William O'Brien Observed at St John’s Church
The funeral of the late William O'Brien was held this morning from St John’s Catholic church with a large turnout. Rev Father M A Shine presided over the solemn mass. Floral tributes testified to high esteem. Interment followed at Lewiston Cemetery near Murray beside his daughter, thirty years gone. Pallbearers included Con Gillespie, O E McEntee, Battie Danih er, Charles McGuire and William Gilmore.

Horse Breaks Through Ice and Rescued from Sixteen Feet
Yesterday afternoon McMaken and Son near the depot used horse to cut ice on the river. The animal broke through softened ice and plunged into sixteen feet of water but was rescued after ropes were placed and the horse hauled out. The horse was a valuable asset and the loss would have been heavy.

Kill Ten Wolves in Elmwood Hunt
A January 27 Elmwood special reports one of the community’s largest wolf hunts. Fourteen wolves were rounded up and ten were killed across a 36 square mile area with about 450 men participating. Three were injured by stray shots. none seriously.
