Home chapter No. 185 of the Eastern Star held its installation of officers in the Masonic building with over 150 in attendance. Mrs. Laughlin of Grand Island served as installing officer. new officers include Worthy Matron Mrs. William F. Evers and Worthy Patron John Janacek among others. gifts were presented to outgoing Matron Mrs. Floyd Becker and incoming officers.

The Hamburg Iowa basketball teams host The Platters this Friday night on the local court. The junior game starts at 7 15 followed by the first team at 8 15 with a tap dancing interlude between halves by Junior High girls led by accompanist Miss Shirley Seiver. Hamburg has a strong record this year and recently played Shenandoah and Nebraska City while showing well against Iowa opponents.

Return from Missouri after New Year train collision
Mrs. Fred Howland and children Billy and Betty returned from West Plains Missouri where they had visited relatives. A New Year’s Day head on collision involving their train and another carrying the Georgia Tech football team left all aboard shaken but unharmed.

Early North Bend settler Elizabeth Robinson visits Omaha trip
Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson, an early North Bend and Fremont settler, arrived Tuesday to visit grandson Andrew Robinson and family. She had stayed with daughter Mrs. Jake Thompson and family at Nebraska City, with Thompson bringing her to town and returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson then motored to Omaha on the grandmother's trip home.

L. E. Vroman longtime resident dies at 76
L E Vroman aged 76 and a Burlington railroad veteran dies Sunday evening at his Plattsmouth home after a heart attack. Born in DeKalb county Illinois he moved to Nebraska in 1884 homesteaded near Farnam then settled in Plattsmouth in 1900. He served on the city council and leaves four sons and one daughter, and many grandchildren.

Hear Fine Talk on Bees at Rotary Meeting
Rotary members viewed four reel films on the life of bees and honey production led by Judge A H Duxbury. The program, loaned by the U S Department of Agriculture Extension Service, covered bee varieties and laboratories handling bee products. High school seniors Stuart Sedlak and Harley Cottingham were announced as Rotary January members. R W Knorr led the session.

Eveland Farm Near Elmwood Struck by Devastating Fire
The G. R. Eveland stock farm near Elmwood was swept by a fast spreading blaze that destroyed a large barn a five thousand bushel elevator a hog house four thousand bushels of corn a team of horses 135 tons of hay and a 500 gallon gasoline tank. Cattle were driven to safety but losses were heavy with some houses and granaries also damaged as winds shifted. Thousands toured the scene as volunteers and Elmwood firemen fought the flames and insurance coverage proved insufficient to cover replacements.

Impressive First Methodist Communion Service Opens Day
The First Methodist church held its first 7 am communion service with twelve candles at the east altar. Rev. J. C. Lawson gave the invitation and a large church membership participated from 7 to 9 o'clock as soft organ music enhanced the Eucharist.

Brothers Graves Visit Relatives in Rock Bluffs

Funeral of Chester Renner Largely Attended
Funeral services for Chester Renner were held Tuesday afternoon at Sattler Funeral Home with a large crowd of family friends and associates in attendance. Rev Paul Dick of Mynard United Brethren led the services and a quartet sang hymns In the Sweet Bye and Bye and Going Down the Valley One by One. The body rests in the family plot at Oak Hill cemetery with pallbearers drawn from longtime friends.
