The Cass County Farm Bureau at its annual board meeting selected Parr Young of Nehawka as the new president succeeding John B. Kaffenberger of Plattsmouth. Kaffenberger will join the A C P committee and devote most of his time there. New executive officers include Harry Bricker as vice president Melvin Todd as secretary Art Roelofsz and Mrs Ralph Keckler as members. Melvin Beerman will serve as assistant agricultural agent statewide until the county agent position is filled.

Credit Association to Meet Stockholders in Area Counties
Farmers and stockmen from Burt Dodge Washington Saunders Douglas Sarpy and Cass counties will attend the annual stockholders meeting of the South Omaha Production Credit Association on Friday January 6 at the Live Stock Exchange. The 10 30 a m session includes a noon lunch and election of two directors for three year terms. Everett Spangler will present the financial statement. Since its 1933 Farm Credit act founding the association has made over 1200 loans totaling more than 800000. Directors listed include J Emmet McArdle R A McWhorter W F Gutschow and Parr Young.

Chester Renner Killed in River Boat Explosion
Chester Renner 23 died in an explosion on a river boat near Hamburg Missouri while at work on a pressure pump. He was a son of Mr and Mrs William Renner of near Mynard and formerly played football locally. The body will be brought home by Sattler funeral home for funeral services after confirmation. He is survived by his parents a brother Norman Renner a sister Mrs Ceasar Bammegart and grandfather Charles Herren.

Vida Metzger Dies in Merriam Nebraska at 38
Adam Stoehr reports the death of his niece Vida Metzger 38 of Merriam Nebraska after a lengthy illness. She was the only daughter of Marion and Metzger and leaves parents two brothers Bryan and Paul. Funeral services are set for Saturday in Merriam with Stoehrs traveling to attend. Metzger led the home department of extension work in Custer county and was known across Cherry and Broken Bow counties.

Death of Mrs Jackson Barker at Louisville
Mrs. Jackson Barker aged 84 and oldest Louisville resident died last night at her home after about two weeks of illness. She had been partly invalid since a hip fracture from a fall a year and a half ago. Barker came to Louisville as a girl and lived there many years with a large circle of friends. Her husband, a Civil War veteran, preceded her in death. She had recently lived with her grandson Donald Barker, and Edward Barker of this city was a son.

County Attorney Rules Initiative Lacked Majority
County Attorney J A Capwell issued an opinion on the initiative measure asking for an annual appropriation to support agricultural extension work. He rules that the majority must be of the total votes cast at the November general election, citing prior cases. In Cass County 7170 votes were cast with 3422 yes, short of 3584 needed, so the measure failed under this standard. The board likely will not vote the annual appropriation.
