High School Christmas Program Delights Attendees

The high school held its annual Christmas program with alumni and current students partaking in a varied lineup. Miss Mary Anne Rosencrans presided, Rev. C O Troy delivered the address, and the Winter concert featured a string ensemble and student acts led by the Tapple of the School.

Grace Club Meeting Highlights Shorthand Demos and Awards

The December Grace Club meeting at the high school featured a shorthand demonstration by Mr and Mrs Woodbury a spell down between Juniors and Seniors and tricks by Mr Devoe. Awards included OGA certificates and 0 word gold pins for shorthand speed achievements.

Christmas Treat at St Johns Parish School

The St Johns parish school held a Christmas treat as students began their vacation. Santa Claus greeted the children and handed out candy treats while the Parent Teachers Association gave gifts. Christmas songs were sung before the break.

Nebraska highway department appeals verdict in land condemnation case

The Nebraska state highway department gives notice of appeal from a district court ruling awarding Merritt Co 20090 for land condemned for Highway 75 extension. Paul Cheney and W G Kieck file the appeal action. The dispute concerns appraisal of sand and gravel land north of the city used for the highway project.

Presbyterian Ladies Enjoy a Holiday Party

Presbyterian auxiliary members hosted a Christmas party in the church fellowship room. A ten foot snow crowned tree and red candles created a festive scene while a play and vocal numbers entertained guests. Santa surprised attendees with stockings and gifts as the afternoon concluded with seasonal refreshments and food contributions for baskets.

Appointed Storage Inspector Named for Elmwood

The state railway commission at Lincoln announced H. L. Clapp of Elmwood as a storage inspector under the corn and hog loan plan. He was notified and began work promptly as applications remained numerous. Other inspectors in the county include Senator W. B. Banning of Union Sears & Davis and W. R. Young. they have been busy processing applications.

Barkus Family Leaves for California Holiday Visit

Mr and Mrs Frank Barkus depart this afternoon with daughters Katherine Helen and Betty May for the west coast to spend the holiday season. They will visit Los Angeles with Oscear Larson and San Bernardino with Mrs E K Becker and brothers Ray and Lester Barkus.

Denied claim ends in state court no patent jurisdiction

The Lancenier district court ruled against Ivan Thimsan in a $700,000 damage suit over a Covered Wagon design, found to be a patent infringement matter under federal law. The supreme court affirmed, holding state courts lack jurisdiction in patent infringement cases and that Thimsan cannot sue for infringement without legislative permission.

Christmas program at Methodist Church delight fills auditorium

Saturday evening's Christmas program by the Methodist Sunday School drew a capacity crowd. Mildred Hall led the junior choir in carols while J. H. Devis presided. Primary class songs and recitations framed a Yuletide pageant. A skit by church leaders in colorful costume amused all. Santa Claus visited with treats, closing a festive community Christmas celebration.

Jury Released After Case Dwyer vs Fr Peterson

Members of the petit jury were excused from duty after the Dwyer versus Peterson case. Judge James Bestey thanked the panel for faithful service since November 20th. The termination of the term allows jurors to celebrate the holiday at home without court responsibilities.

Fumeral of A H Engelkemeier Held at Hight Mile Grove

Funeral services for Aususch Herman Engelkemeier were held at Hight Mile Grove Lutheran church with German and English tributes. Born 1860 in Lippe Detmold, he emigrated to America in 1884, married Matilda in 1888, and died aged 76 years 5 months 16 days. survivors include wife six children, two sisters and two brothers.

Alumni Defeat Peru Five In 25 15 Battle

A Wednesday night alumni game pitted Penn State Teachers College graduates against Peru’s 1925 34 team with Lorber coaching. The locals claimed a 25 to 15 victory as Fred Robert Joe Krejci and Bernard Galloway appeared among the alumni in attendance and on court.

San Francisco native Edward Patterson visits California home

Edward Petterson of San Francisco arrives to enjoy the holidays with his parents Mr and Mrs Rea I F Patterson. He has lived on the west coast since graduation and has found work there. Hosts and friends welcome his visit and expect him to stay after the new year.

Emily Lorenz to Return Home for Holiday Vacation

Will Undergo Operation For Eye Trouble

Alfred Edgerton constable of the county court will travel to Omaha early next week for an eye operation. He previously had one eye operated on with beneficial results and hopes for restoration of the other eye to its former condition. Friends wish him a swift return to duties.

Death Calls One of the Long Time Residents Here

Mrs. Mytia Elizabeth Stoehr Meisinger, longtime Plattsmouth resident, died Friday. Born August 2, 1852 in Pekin Illinois, she married John Meisinger and later Peter Meisinger, farming near Cedar Creek before moving to Plattsmouth in 1922. Survived by husband, eight children, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a half-brother, a half-sister, and many relatives.

Defendants Win Verdict in Dwyer v Peterson Baking Co Case

A district court jury found for the defendant in the Dwyer versus Peterson Baking Co case. The trial stopped a damages claim of $23 from a February 1932 collision on South Sixth Street where the plaintiff’s car struck a truck owned by the defendant, parked on South Gih Street.

Tragedy Ends Holiday Visit of St Louis Girl

A 20 year old from St Louis, Exythe Bredway, died in the Gelber home after sleeping near a closed base burner during a Christmas visit. The body was taken to the Souier funeral home for an autopsy to determine cause, with the father en route from out of state.

Pleasant Ridge Community Club Sees Enjoyable Program

The Pleasant Ridge Community club met December 15 at the Pleasant Ridge school. Farmers Union Band from Lotsville Nebraska directed by W. B. Green performed with vocal solos by Miss Misinie Pankonin and readings by Mixes Jean Growp. Janet Westover read, Ruth Westover concluded with piano solos. Next meeting set for January 19, 1934.
