County Conventions Set for Next Thursday
County conventions for both the Democratic and Republican parties are scheduled for next Thursday afternoon August 28 at 2 o'clock in the city courthouse. Delegates to the state convention will be chosen, the county central committee named, and the county chairman selected. The county clerk must provide the meeting halls and notify elected delegates. Voters at the primaries elect delegates, and the invitation is extended to all party members to attend.

Death of Old Time Resident Near Murray
John W Connally longtime resident near Murray passed away Tuesday August 12 at Fort Pierre hospital South Dakota after a nine day illness from a stroke. He lived near Murray about forty years moved to Dakota twenty years ago and remained in that community. Survived by widow Mollie Rhoden sister of Don and George W Rhoden and brother Quincy Connally of Kansas. Funeral held August 15 at Interior South Dakota with interment there.

The last concrete on highway No 34 was poured at Thayer in Union county marking completion of a paved route from Glenwood to the Atlantic Ocean. City Halts Gas Line Construction in Plattsmouth
The city has filed suit to block Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Co from laying natural gas lines without a city franchise. A restraining order hearing is set for Saturday August 30, freezing work from the Missouri Valley Pipeline main to the local plant. Denver reports extortion threats from the Chisex targeting 25 wealthy residents. Publisher Is Sentenced For Criminal Libel In Florida
Miami J P Wendler publisher of the Miami Beach Times and the Hialeah Herald was sentenced Friday to three months hard labor on the county road force after a conviction for criminal libel. He had a suspended sentence from 1928 and faced an affidavit for a recent attack on Glenn H Curtiss and a Hialeah city council member among others. Circuit Judge Thompson denied a writ of habeas corpus, and Wendler jailed. He was a principal witness in padlock actions against Al Capone's residence in Miami Beach.

Attempted Robbery At Bank Of Union Last Night
Burglars attacked the Bank of Union by prying open a rear window and attempting to gain access to the vault. They battered doors and tried to force locks while lights were turned off.
