George Conis was elected commander. committees for Americanism, Auditing, Arbor Day, Cemetery, Child Welfare and more were named. Scout activities and Drum Corps reports highlighted routine post business. upcoming Eagle Scout awards were announced. a Burlington Route Post 387 letter offered thanks for burial services. and district officers urged early 1940 membership with delegates chosen for Lincoln convention.

Plattsmouth Legion backs WPA plan for building and street work
The Post backs petitions calling for a Public Works Administration loan grant to finish the Plattsmouth community building and repave Chicago avenue. A 45 percent grant is offered with the city covering 55 percent. Estimated costs run to 17 000 federal grant and 21 000 city funds for the building. The Legion would turn over about 20 600 for its basement stake. A special election would decide the propositions. A bond issue at 4?4 percent interest is noted.

Hearing determined heirship in the estate of Cazy Blanchard of Denver with real estate in Cass county. George Stander Nears 80 Years in the County
George Stander, a long time Cass county resident living west of the city, recalls pioneer life on the family homestead south of Louisville. Born January 6, 1860, he describes early farm life, Indians, river trade at Plattsmouth, and prices like 40 cents a pound brown sugar. He moved near Plattsmouth in 1898 and remains a leading farmer with his sons on farms near Plattsmouth.

Return from Outing by Ault and Phillips Delights City Trip
Charles Ault and Joe Phillips, local baseball players, return Thursday after a two week visit traveling via 1211 St. Louis. They tried out with the Cardinals camp at Omaha in July and earned an invitation to visit St. Louis this season. From Thursday's Daily report Mrs Rudolph Iverson was taken to St Joseph's hospital this week and underwent a major operation Wednesday morning. Though serious she withstood the procedure well and hopes to return in a few days.

Remains of Youth Said Found Near Omaha Rail Line
Sheriff Joe Mrasek and deputies in Omaha searched for a boy killed by a southbound Missouri Pacific freight train near 26th and Q streets. The body, mangled and 15 or 16, wore a light suit with extra underwear. Two boys reportedly tried to board the train. one was said to have succeeded before the accident. The engineer was Gus Phillips of Falls City, once linked with King Boris of Bulgaria.

Aged Lady Injured In Everett Woman Fractures Limb In Accident
Mrs Mary Boyd widow of the late Frank Boyd longtime resident of this city suffered a limb fracture in an accident and is now in a hospital in Everett Washington. Her niece Miss Athol McElroy of San Francisco informed Mrs Fred Geis of this city about the serious condition. The Boyd family lived here for years with Mr Boyd working in the Burlington shops and the family home on west Granite street and later South Lincoln avenue.

Miss Frances Marie Racek, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Racek of Meadowlands Minnesota, wed Henry B Levendowski at St Stephens Catholic church in Minneapolis on Saturday July 29. Maid of honor was Louise Racek with A Levendowski as best man. Bridal party included Frances Levedowski and Joseph Racek. After a breakfast and dinner at relatives homes a reception followed. The Racek family, long time Plattsmouth residents, had moved to Meadowlands sixteen years earlier. Their return from Minneapolis prompted notice of the sister’s death in Plattsmouth.

Mrs. C. L. Johannes, at St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City, is somewhat improved after two days in critical condition. She received a blood transfusion on Thursday and began to rally. Her husband, Joe's New Way grocery owner, was in the city last evening and confirmed her improvement.
