United Championship draws wide field of golf entrants
The Twelfth Annual United North and South Amateur Golf championship runs April 2 to 6 with a strong lineup led by title holder Charles Evans Jr and former champions Walter Travis Allan Lord William Fownes Jr Dr N Gardner and C G Waldo Jr. A robust amateur professional four ball open and a strong southern delegation join the schedule. In the women’s event starting Monday, entrants include Dorothy Campbell Louise Elkins Mary Fownes Myra Helmer and Mrs F S Hayes.

Captain Henry C. Fownes led the Pirates to a 53 to 43 victory over Irving 8 Robeson’s Indians on the number two course. Scoring awarded one point per nine hole win and two points per the match totaling four. The losing team paid for the annual dinner.

Dillon Wins Putting Trophy at Village Club Fete
Mr Dillon claimed the putting trophy amid the Village Club Fete events with Mr W 8 Dillon the winner. Mr R C King and Mrs L E B Beall tied for second and King won the playoff. Prizes included a gold pocket knife and a handsome golf bag presented by I B Robeson and Donald J Ross.
