A devastating forest fire thirty years ago destroyed timber land, homes, stills, and livestock, but McKenzie plantation buildings were saved by hard work and buckets of water. Her cattle returned after thirteen days, and she remains active weaving and visiting the Arts and Crafts Shop in the General Office Building.
