Grazing fund larger for western states in 1908 budget
Western states with forest reserves will receive 25 percent of timber receipts in the year ending June 30 1908 instead of 10 percent under the agricultural appropriation act. The increase stems from a Senate lobby against forest service policy with senators Clark Heyburn Teller and Carter pushing an amendment. Receipts for 1908 total about $2 million with western states to gain roughly $600,000 for schools roads and bridges while the prior expectation was $300,000. A separate brief notes a drowning accident at Luna Park Seattle and a child’s liver pills advertisement from DeWitt’s Little Early Risers.
