Rock led a conspiracy to kill Robinson and Warden Frank Conley and escape. Robinson was killed and Conley fatally wounded. Conley and two convicts were wounded by a volley. Rock and his companions faced death or life terms, with one condemned to death and the other to life imprisonment.
