The Knights of Pythias Oregon grand lodge, in session in Portland, chose Pendleton as the session site for June 1909. Damon lodge No. 4 and local delegates J W Maloney M A Rader and E Br Aldrich helped secure the decision. Eugene Pringle Dies After Mass Meeting Leader of 1854 Oak Event
Eugene Pringle, oldest Jackson County bar member and long time Michigan political figure, died at his Jackson home of apoplexy. He conducted the "under the oak" meeting in 1854 that helped form the Republican Party in western Jackson. Born in Otsego County, New York, in December 1826, Pringle later switched to the Democratic Party.

Assault at Bear Creek: Mary Edwards Attacked in Home
Mrs Mary Edwards was assaulted by a man named Doc McKenzie who entered her Bear Creek home near Pilot Rock. She defended herself with a butcher knife and neighbors helped. McKenzie was arrested at Pilot Rock and to be brought to the county jail this evening. A Seattle High School graduation lists 328 seniors this week.

Labor Plank 9 Submits Anti Injunction Proposal

Fifteen Steel Water Tanks Replace Wooden Structures
The O R and N will erect Fifteen steel water tanks with 65000 gallon capacity each at multiple Oregon locations, replacing old wooden tanks. Four tanks are now in Arlington Duncan Hood River and La Crosse, with Pendleton and Meacham to follow after July 1. Each 24 by 20 foot tank sits on steel pillars and concrete pedestals, costing about 400 dollars to place, 2500 dollars for the tank and materials, totaling around 2000 dollars per unit.

No Celebration Planned At Wehma Springs On July Fourth
J A Rorle proprietor of the Wehma springs resort is in the city with supplies and says improvements to the grounds howl and other features are underway but not yet complete. Consequently there will be no Fourth of July celebration this year. Many friends urged a celebration but he cannot safely accommodate crowds. Instead many visitors will go to the springs for a quiet day on the Fourth and efforts will be made to accommodate all who come.

Inspector Stewart of the Fire Underwriters' Association declares nearly all large Pendleton buildings are defective in wiring and must be updated with new wire and switches at an estimated minimum cost of 5000 dollars.
