Christie Turned Down as County Inspects Inspector
County court refused to consider Dr J Christie for stock inspector replacing J B Bean who serves as county inspector at 700 dollars yearly. Christie offered to do the work for 80 dollars monthly or 360 dollars yearly and save 340 to the county, but Commissioners Walker and Gilliland stood firm. Judge Hartman favored trying Christie, but the board insisted 700 dollars is not too much and declined Bean’s removal. They agreed the office is not a necessity yet kept Bean. The dispute ended with the decision to keep Bean and pay him 700 dollars. George N Dale reports decline in American trade in Quebec due to high duties.
