The Des Moines flood continues with the levee breach leaving many brick buildings submerged. Water remains high and black, with cellars flooded and streets blocked. hundreds fear destitution as residents refuse to vacate.
Delegates gathered at Roberts Park for the Sworth League convention in Indianapolis on July 11. The morning program featured reports on growth, divine guidance, and a busy agenda with nominations and resolutions, followed by addresses from M. Ogden and others. The afternoon included conference luncheons and departmental reports, with an evening open meeting and lecture by Bishop E. E of the Methodist Church.

Welch, a member of the Western Miners Federation No. 16 of McKay Idaho, was buried at Hilgard after the union received no instructions.
July 11 Newport marks the anniversary of French troops landing in America with a gathering of prominent citizens. The group began steps to build a monument on the harbor south shore using stone from Fort Chastelux, owned by Lorrillard Spencer.

Seattle July Y1 sheriff's posse surrounds Tracy on a hill near Covington Point after midnight gunfire. He evades trains, scouts report, and a battle may erupt as the posse closes in. Tracy appeared frightened, mislaid rumors, and aided a Johnson household before taking $5 to repay later.

The tale questions his purpose while noting Merrill could blend into rail or sea routes with stolen funds from Shultz and the Colfax saloon robbery.

The influx is rapid with Pendleton trains carrying travelers while locals rush to locate and file on timber lands, anticipating thousands of acres claimed within weeks as others follow from Washington.
The Moody land act passed by Congress grants 90 days to settlers to purchase unallotted Umatilla reserve lands exceeding 90 000 acres. Squatters rush to secure best portions ahead of sale date not yet set. Lands valued twelve years ago from 1.25 to 25 an acre, with much scab land little suited beyond sheep pasture. Many occupy and fence land seeking quick profits from anticipated resale after sale.
