Gillnetters Find Carp Concentration At West Okoboji
West Okoboji Lake yielded about 12,000 pounds of carp in a day last week as rough fish removal by the State Conservation Commission progresses. Over 5,000 pounds of carp and other rough fish have been removed so far this season through the ice using gill nets. Fishermen watch for cloudy water signaling dense fish. When found, large seines are deployed, holes are bored, nets pulled, and game fish are returned to the lake. Carp are sold locally for food.
