Hijacker on United jet demands cash, gold, guns at Reno takeoff
A white male in his 40s wearing a skimask hijacked a United Airlines Boeing 727 at Reno Tahoe airport. He demanded 2 million dollars in cash plus 19 pounds of gold, two Magnum pistols, three submachine guns, pep pills, walkie talkies, a monitoring radio, and other items. The plane departed toward Vancouver with three crew members and the hijacker aboard. The FAA reported climb to 23,000 feet and position 30 miles southwest of Reding, Oregon, by 10:40 a.m. EDT. The man rode a bicycle with a rifle on the handlebars to board and had no ticket.
