Evaders of State Gasoline Tax Face Felony Charges
Austin reports Texas Comptroller Sheppard's gasoline enforcement division has grown to over 70 agents with eight district offices. Sixty six felony indictments have been issued against alleged gas tax violators and three refineries placed in receivership. The program aims to boost fuel tax revenue by about 1 million dollars yearly for the school fund and highway fund, while cigarette tax collections also rise benefiting schools.

J D Simmons 62 Pecos resident and uncle of County Commissioner Clyde Simmons died Sunday after months of illness. A farmer and carpenter by trade he had limited work recently. Funeral Tuesday from Pecos Furniture Co chapel with Rev Ratlitt officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. Survived by two sons J W and C T L Simmons both of Pecos two daughters Mrs Ruby Baumwardner and Miss Jackie Simmons both of Pecos two sisters Mrs Mattie Jones Elk City Oklahoma and Mrs Mary Coleman Wheeler Texas a brother Jim R Simmons Pecos and a nephew Clyde Swons.
