Belle Lovelady Keeps Payson Talking Through The Years
Belle Lovelady has been Payson’s chief telephone operator since 1947, guiding switches from the old system to a planned dial setup. She recalls saving a child's life by telephone instruction and notes growing calls as Payson progresses toward a vacation town boom. Married to Walter Lovelady, with extended family and roots in Globe, she balances emergencies with curiosities from fishermen to Santa Claus reindeer inquiries.
