Illinois Road Safety Project On Route 66
Illinois highway division commits 150000 to install traffic control and protective devices at key intersections along U S Route 66 from Chicago to Chain of Rocks Bridge over the Mississippi just above St Louis. Installation by August aims to maximize safety and facilities, says W Polk chief.

Illinois Route 66 upgrades push ahead with signals and beacons
The state highway engineer notes seven points will get vehicle actuated signals nine sites will have sodium vapor lighting and twenty locations will feature flashing beacon signals. Five grade separations along Route 66 have been completed as the project aims to make the road a four lane divided highway across its 277 miles east of Plainfield and west of Joliet. A sixth separation near Springfield at Route 104 is expected to be contracted this season.

Illinois State Geological Survey reports 1946 state value at about 375 million with increases in production across many sectors. May drilling set a record with 288 wells and May oil output about 172000 barrels daily.
