Edna Leininger of Vernon born October 6 1888 died June 15 1948 at her Vandalia home age 59 years 8 months 9 days. She was a daughter of Fred and Lancinda Leininger survived by brother Lewis and sister Della and three nieces Dorothy Reed Martha McPherson and Margaret Jean Leininger. Funeral June 17 Vernon Methodist Church with Rev Fish officiating. Interment Vernon Cemetery.

Car Hits Bridge South of Sandoval Sunday Night
A 1941 Chevrolet with Indiana plates struck the bridge south of Sandoval between 10 and 10 30 PM while avoiding a pursuing 1942 Lincoln Zephyr from Illinois. The Lincoln fled south without stopping. The Chevrolet sustained damage to the right fender and door. No injuries were reported.

Services Held For Henry Lee At Sandoval
Funeral services were held at Cox Martin Funeral Home in Sandoval at 2:00 PM Monday for Henry Lee 43 of Sandoval who died Saturday morning June 19 in what coroner ruled a suicide. He is survived by his wife two young children a sister and three brothers. Burial followed in Sandoval Cemetery.

Bob Newman Wins Four Firsts With Dashunds Sunday
Mr and Mrs Bob Newman of Sandoval entered four Dashhounds in the Sportsman's picnic dog show at Salem Sunday and won four first prizes. Champ won best male over one year and Hedgy Lamarr won best female over one year. Hans Von Doppell won best male under one year and Scarlet O Hara won best female under one year. Camp took best of breed in the over one year class and Scarlet O Hara won best of breed in the under one year class.

GED Testing Opens High School Diploma Path for Veterans

Fire Chief Schroeder Attends Illinois Fire College
Fire Chief O C Schroeder attended the twenty fourth Illinois Fire College at the University of Illinois on June 15 16 17 and 18. He reported the event was very successful with over 600 firefighters from across the state and some from outside. Training covered fighting butane and propane fires, crucial for the local area using gas for heat cooking and refrigeration. Schroeder noted Patoka Volunteer Fire Department recently bought a new Pyrene foam nozzle for oil fires.

Three Injured in Jeff City Corner Accident
Frank Fetgatter of Central City and Roy Luttrell of Boulder were taken to St Marys hospital Saturday morning after a highway collision at Jeff City corner. Don Phillips of Boulder, a Luttrell passenger, suffered only minor scratches. Fetgatter, driving north on Highway 51, turned left toward Glenridge and was struck broadside by the Luttrell car. both vehicles were badly damaged. All were treated and released. condition not believed serious.

The Sando Theatre in Sandoval has installed a Coke machine enabling expertly mixed fountain Cokes and Orange Phosphate. The unit resembles a deep freeze with two fountains and dispenses syrup and carbonated water together for exact portions. It is reportedly the only machine of its kind in operation in the state.
