Boy Hurt When Air Compressor Falls in Patoka Shop
Gary Foltz eleven year old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Foltz of Patoka was badly injured Tuesday evening when a five hundred pound air compressor fell on his left hand in his father's shop. He attempted to stop it as it fell and suffered two broken fingers plus a severe cut. He was treated in Patoka and later moved to St Marys hospital in Centralia for X rays.

Carl Ira Watkins born January 17 1907 near Shobonier Illinois died June 5 1948 at St Marys Hospital Centralia age 41 5 19. Funeral services were held June 8 1948 at 2 pm from the Patoka Pentecostal Church. Interment in Farmer Cemetery. He leaves wife Lucille six children and his relatives.

Five Sandoval Boys Enlist in Air Corps
Five Sandoval youths have enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Bill Lewis and Victor Williams joined at Centralia on May 26 and departed June 9 for San Antonio Texas. Everett Uhls Emil Williams and Ed Goodwin enlisted in Centralia on June 8 and will leave June 15 for San Antonio. All enlist for three years.

Nurse From Centralia Joins Marion County Sanatorium Board
Mrs. Bertie Bickson, Centralia City School nurse, will serve as temporary nurse for the Marion County Tuberculosis Sanatorium Board from June 15 during a summer emergency. She replaces Mrs. Bette Hargis and will resume school duties in the fall, while assisting with follow-up work from the mobile X-ray unit and tuberculosis control efforts in Marion county.
