Gene Gosney aged 67 6 19 born Campbell County Kentucky November 28 1865 was a Vernon merchant before moving to Effingham in 1905 He attended the Christian Church and was an Odd Fellow and Modern Woodmen member He is survived by his widow Mary Orr three sons Lester Leo Archie and three daughters Grace Marie Arlie and others and was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery with numerous relatives present

Well Known Attorney Miller Gains Recognition in Missouri Case

Death and Burial of a Former Patoka Mother
Mary Frances Pugh Belcher long valued in Patoka, born February 12 1850 at Galatia Illinois, died June 8 1938 at Normal Illinois aged 83 years 3 months and 21 days. She left Patoka twelve years ago to live with her daughter in Normal and was buried at Pratt Cemetery after a service led by Rev J M Smith. Her husband T K Belcher preceded her in death and she is survived by five children Mrs Lewis Walker Josie Chester Henry Minnie Nelson and one son Chester was noted as living in Cooksville Dixon Butler and Normal respectively. Her funeral was conducted at the Baptist Church on Monday June 5 after the remains were brought to Patoka.

Meredith Doolen born near Kinmundy Illinois December 30 1849 died at his Vernon home June 5 1933 aged 83 5 5. He was the last survivor of nine children and married Matilda Ryman in 1871. Survived by wife six children twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral was held at home with Rev P R Glotfelty Jr officiating and interment at Moolen Cemetery.

The local Monday election saw a close judiciary race with Jones for Supreme Judge at 181 votes, Jett 179, Wright 179, and Dove 179. Republicans Ward 126, Smith 126, Wanderer 125. Judges Noah Carter A A Griffin Howard Riley assisted by several clerks. fourteen ballots had no judiciary vote and six were scratched. Democrats won the district.
