The Illinois Agricultural Association department of safety warns against tailgating as a dangerous driving habit. It cites that at 80 mph a six car length gap and at 60 mph a fifteen car length gap prevent collisions and injuries like neck wrenching and smashed noses.
Young people from M. E. Church South Epworth League gathered at the Epworth League meeting held at M. E. Church South in Warden Illinois on Saturday August 19. Attendees included Ruth Wadkins Doris Adams Helen Adams Pansy Wasem Betty Ballance Evalena Jennings John Barnes Byard McKinney Joy Barnse Iris Belcher Anna Black and Irene Belcher from Zion.
Marvin Ballance and Rev Thomas drove a group on a day trip. All participants reported an enjoyable day and an interesting outing.
The Du Quoin State Fair opens on Labor Day with harness and running races in the afternoon, plus musical numbers and vaudeville. At night, a Society Horse Show in a new arena and a Mammoth Musical Revue by the Music Corporation of America. The Revues features a 75‑member cast and top vaudeville acts. Wednesday brings Flash Williams thrill program with car stunts. Clyde Lucas Orchestra provides music for the revue and dances on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with $100 jitterbug prizes. Rafe Davis offers songs and gags all week. Free gate Tuesday until noon. Friday Children’s Day with free gate for students. Saturday features championship auto races and dirt-track drivers. Large farm machinery displays from Oliver, Allis Chalmers, McCormick-Deering, and others.
Mrs John Orrell and her baby returned home from St Marys Hospital in Centralia on Sunday and are reported doing fine. Kathern Ruth and Esther Crawford were home this weekend from Chicago.
