Highway link ceremony unites Saskatchewan and The Pas
The Pas hosted a symbolic road opening as five motorcades promoted a proposed highway between The Pas and Nipawin Carrot River. Prominent figures including Mayor Bickle Frank Parker Sr Lionel Charboneau Jack Johnson Bert Hutton and Neil Byers joined Manitoba and Saskatchewan officials to officially open the route with spruce trees and an axe cutting ceremony. Manitoba’s Bert Hutton led greetings while Deputy Mayor Bob Campbell Nipawin Mayor Jim Coventry and Nipawin MLA Frank Radloff attended. The event drew about 150 attendees from Saskatchewan and The Pas, with ill connections to the old The Pas Lumber Company road used in earlier plans.
