Three Die In Single Truck Crash Near The Pas

RCMP report three men died when a late model truck rolled several times into a ditch and 4 feet of water north of The Pas around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Two women and an eight-year-old boy survived with minor injuries. autopsy ordered.

Man Drowns In Clearwater Lake

The body of William Alexander Martin, 35, of Flin Flon, was recovered from Clearwater Lake at about 10 p.m. Friday, two hours after friends reported him missing. Martin had been with friends at Sunset Beach near The Pas in a house trailer. his body was found in five feet of water about 100 feet from shore. He was involved in the construction of the new wing of St Anthony Hospital.

Opasquia Indian Days Aug 18 21 Feature Prairie Indian Dance Troupe

Opasquia Days run Wednesday to Saturday with an opening flaming arrow by Chief Gordon Lathlin at 6 00 PM. Wednesday night events at Dick Bell Park Pike Lake while other days use reserve sports grounds and Saskatchewan River. Paddling events at Pike Lake and the 120 mile no portage canoe race begins Thursday 9 30 AM over three days with paddlers from Flin Flon Moose Lake Cumberland House and Sturgeon Landing. The winner is based on the best three day time.

Population Nears 8000 The Pas grows in census counts

The Pas shows a population of 7 856, up from about 6 000 in 1970, per the just completed Canadian census. Males outnumber females by a narrow margin with 3 810 and 3 ? 8? 05, and 21 residents are aged 90 or over. The 20 24 age group for family heads remains the largest, with 406 male and 141 female heads.

Homecoming for Landels Family in The Pas

Mr and Mrs Harry Landels longtime The Pas residents were honored as their entire family gathered this summer. The couple, married 40 years in The Pas, raised five children with 18 grandchildren. Relatives traveled from California Calgary and Whitehorse. first time in 20 years all members were together. Landels, 88, plans another reunion in 1983. Florence, 78, joins in the event. CN Moves Ore From New Mine

Canadian National Railways has moved the first six carloads of nickel copper ore concentrates from the Maisbridge Mine in northern Manitoba to Sudbury smelter facilities. CN plans a fleet of 50 100-ton gondola cars and expects about 100000 tons annually once full production starts, with a 2140 foot siding and 300 foot spur built near Wabowden, 90 miles south of Thompson.

Paving Program Planned For 1972

Town engineer Steve Samu told Council that preliminary work for a 1972 paving program could start in fall with design to finish by March 1 1972 and construction to begin August 1 1972. He outlined collaboration with Winnipeg and provincial highways officials and noted engineering crews would assist with field surveys.
