Jesse J. Lewis 79 Dies in Salt Lake City VA Hospital
Paris resident Jesse J. Lewis aged 79 died at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City after a period as a patient. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Paris Wards Chapel with arrangements pending until his children arrive. Matthews Mortuary is handling the service.

Bowen Survives Utah Power Truck Rollover Near St. Charles
Kemmerer Wyo. resident arrel W Bowen driving a Utah Power and Light panel truck overturned one mile south of St Charles while avoiding a cow. The 4 wheel drive vehicle left the road shoulder and rolled injuring the right side and top. Bowen credited with wearing a seatbelt by Sheriff C E Monson.

Over Seventy Banquet Held in Laketown Stake
A large gathering of residents over seventy in the Bear Lake Stake attended a turkey banquet at Laketown Banquet Hall on Friday November 1 at noon. The Relief Society prepared and served the meal. Alfred Jensen as Stake Old Folks chairman led the event with wife assisting. The program included prayers, solos by Dean Ward with Mary Johnson on piano, xylophone numbers, readings, duets by Frank Cottle and Mr. and Mrs. Whitney Transtrum, a talk by Bishop Harold Johnson, poems and closing remarks. District No. 33 reports October receipts totaling 41 014.75 from state and county apportionment up from 40 988.11 last year. Driver Training received 2 216.88 versus 1 660.09 a year ago, reflecting a payment on the Driver Training car. Idaho Fish and Game notes elk hunters had a better-than-average start from September 15 to October 31 with bull elk making up just over 58 percent of the 2,500 kill reports. Regions with higher harvests include northern Shoshone County Middle Fork of the Salmon and several Boise River area zones. The pheasant season opened strongly in southern Idaho with 9,948 roosters taken by 7,651 hunters. A Sawtooth Trails program cooperative project with the Forest Service seeks three years of work for about $60,000 to improve access to Sawtooth Primitive Area headwaters.

Idaho Highway Users Conference protests HB 8363 in Boise
In executive session on October 18 in Boise the Idaho Highway Users Conference, led by President John G. Grant, protested House Bill 8363 which would remove state gasoline tax and other motor vehicle tax deductions from federal returns. The group urged the U S Senate to reject the measure, citing a loss of 16 million dollars in Idaho motorist deductions and a 12 billion dollar national highway tax burden.
