The Great Western Sugar Company reports a net loss of 489 418.26 for the year ended February 28. Refined sugar on hand totaled 34 877 575.35 with notes payable rising to 13 100 000 as surplus declined to 31 494 172.02 after a year of lower sugar content and market decline.

Storm Checks Beet Phosphate Planting
About 300 acres of beets had been planted before the snow storm with phosphate applied at seed. Sixty farmers in the valley have received 180 tons of phosphate to date. Sugar company officials expect enough fertilizer to meet most demands within a week or two if orders are placed. Farmers spread phosphate by grain drills sleigh spreaders broadcast from snow or manure beds and by beet seed attachments. Last year’s beet growers report higher yields and alfalfa tests spur wider phosphate use this year.
