Emerson Middle School students Sara Brunell and Shay Altman were honored during a Syracuse Chiefs baseball game for creating winning baseball themed poster designs.
Emerson J. Dillon Middle School seventh graders Sara Brunell and Shay Altman won the Syracuse Chiefs poster contest in the sixth to eighth grade category. The pair were honored on Education Day May 4 at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, receiving Chiefs hats certificates of honor and four game tickets each. Posters from central New York students were displayed around the stadium.
Police say two students fought in a campus library shortly before 3 p.m. at Stony Brook University. One student drew a knife and slashed the other on the arm, the suspect was taken into custody at the scene and the knife recovered. Charges pending Friday evening.

Oswego Kingsford Park Elementary hosts a 5K outing to benefit the St Baldricks Foundation in memory of Julian Ross who died at 10 after a neuroblastoma fight. Mackenzie Mulcahey, 10, organized the event inspired by Julian’s story to aid childhood cancer research and ease family pain.
Oswego County Bar Association marked Law Day in Oswego to honor the American legal system. The event, led by the Honorable Norman W. Seiter Jr., notes the 50th anniversary of Miranda v. Arizona and recalls Eisenhower’s 1958 establishment of Law Day.
