Wellsville Artists Earn Honors at Frontier League Contest
Wellsville High School sent 10 students and 25 art pieces to the Frontier League Art Contest in Louisburg May 3. The team earned seven ribbons and second place overall. John Shepard won three ribbons for silver point drawing, a clay bowl, and a pencil drawing. Burgoon Coons Chidster and Hutchens Each won ribbons for ink drawing clay form and pencil drawing. Hutchens earned an excellence rating and a chalk drawing team featuring Hutchens Bloss Hedrick and Ard placed second.

Pupil artwork to be shown statewide and at state fair
Dawnna Hedrick of W Wellsville High School earned honorable mention in the 1995 Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest. More than 1,070 Kansas students entered, with 64 honorable mentions statewide and 36 first to third place awards. Top state entries to be displayed year round, including at the Hutchinson state fair, while Pleasant Ridge High’s Craig Thrasher leads national contenders destined for Washington D.C. competition.

Ottawa High School seniors Abby Tillery and Robby Adcock earned I ratings at the state forensics festival at Johnson County Community College Overland Park Tillery performed a prose reading of Lewis Grizzard Elvis is Dead and I Don t Feel So Good Myself and Adcock did a humorous acting solo based on The Actor s Nightmare Other team members included Keely Black Jennifer Lemke and Tricia Smith with events in improv duet acting poetry and prose Kirk hopes next year will be even better as the team plans to enroll about 20 students and grow the program.

Lyndon High journalism students at state meet
Lyndon High School journalism students attended the University of Kansas on May 6 to compete at the state meet. Brandee Kanak finished second in yearbook advertising and Jake Renner placed third in editorial cartoon. The team earned a Regional Sweepstakes award for their regional results at Emporia State earlier this year. Other competitors included Olivia Snyder in editorial writing Kyle Wells in yearbook sports writing Reghan McDaniel and Tiffany Lewis in feature writing.
