Wal-Mart Center Set to Open. New Pay Levels Announced

Wal-Mart plans start wages near eight dollars an hour with higher starting rates for skilled positions. New Ottawa youth program seeks funding and volunteers

Welton outlined a new youth program for ages 5 to 17 from single parent families in Ottawa. State support of 10000 next year and 5000 the following year will be joined by local funding and grants. Participants start June 6 at Don Woodward Community Center with two weekly nights, plus work toward two annual community service projects and volunteer involvement from high school seniors.

OHS students sweep contest at Veterans Memorial dedication

Three Ottawa High School students won top honors in the Franklin County Veterans Memorial contest. Bart Baldwin earned first place and a $100 bond, Samantha Tate was second with a $75 bond, and Charlotte Ransom took third with a $50 bond. All entrants receive certificates of appreciation.
