Rebels call for negotiations in Tetovo uprising

Ethnic Albanian rebels in Tetovo expressed willingness to negotiate a peaceful settlement to end their week old insurgency while warning Macedonia’s government to respond or fighting would continue. The communique urged international recognition of their demands for peace and named the National Liberation Army Tetovo branch. Officials in Skopje dismissed talks, with President Trajkovski vowing no negotiations and calling the rebels ethnic extremists threatening regional stability.
