Sign-up for conservation cost share planned in Ottawa county
A June sign-up runs Monday June 11 through Friday June 22 at the Ottawa Conservation District Office 209% W. 2nd for the Kansas Water Resources Cost-Share and High Priority Cost-Share Programs. Funds become available after July 1 with cost share rates up to 70 percent or $3500 per landowner for practices including critical area planting diversions grade stabilization water ways terraces underground outlets and water and sediment control basins. Pasture and range seeding receive 50 percent of county average costs. Farmers planning conservation compliance must apply at the district service office. Also notes USDA survey aims to contact nearly 5 000 farmers statewide by June 15 as part of the June Agricultural Survey. nationwide 130 000 farmers and ranchers will be surveyed for crops stocks livestock inventories and more. Youths at seminars Franklin County Farm Bureau sponsored eight students to the Kansas Farm Bureau Citizenship Seminar at Rock Springs Ranch and two students to the Farm Bureau Safety Seminar at Camp Wa Shunga with lessons on voting freedom economics and leadership. Erik Garcia of Pomona RFD 2 won third in the senior division of the Kansas Farm Bureau Safety Poster Program. BioTechnica International Inc reports its subsidiary gained USDA approval to field test engineered corn near Lisbon Iowa.
