Garnett voters reject $8 million elementary bond plan
Garnett voters by mail ballot rejected an $8 million elementary school bond. Anderson County Clerk Arlene Patton said 81 percent of 3,300 voters returned ballots, with 1,547 against and 1,079 for the proposal. If approved, the new school would merge Longfellow and Irving into a 40 acre Garnett site. The current buildings house about 500 students with eight mobile units. The plan would have raised the district mill levy by about 18 mills yearly for 20 years. Superintendent Mansfield said the board would decide next steps.
