Garnett Volunteer Fire Department hosts its third annual Water Wars on August 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oak Street. Two three person teams fire water hoses at a suspended barrel to advance past the other team. divisions cover junior high to open and fire departments with entry fees of 12 by Aug 6 and 15 at the door, plus 5 for on-site challenge matches. Harris News Service reports a pilot linking older citizens with Welfare to Work participants could roll out to Southeast Kansas. The Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging in Chanute received a Kansas Department on Aging grant to run a Senior Mentoring Program in Kansas City.
