Wall Street mixed as Dow rises amid varied index moves

At noon on Wall Street the Dow Jones rose 19.31 to 9253.78 while the S P 500 slipped 0.63 to 1174.18 and the Nasdaq composite fell 4.04 to 1990.50. Other indices, including the NYSE and AMEX composites, eased slightly amid broader market turnover. Local stock quotes and grain prices show commodities and firm names such as Casey's, H&R Block, Wendy's, O'Reilly Auto, and commodity bids from Ottawa Co-op and Franklin County Farm Services.

Kosovo ruling party offices raided by Serb police

Serb police raided the Kosovo ruling party headquarters in Pristina just after ethnic Albanian leaders swore in a president at a clandestine parliament session. No arrests were made. 20 riot police and 10 plainclothes officers seized documents as police claimed to prevent a so called parliament. The raid follows a March 22 unauthorized election in which Rugova’s Democratic League won 90 percent of seats. International observers noted U.S. and European support for autonomy but not independence. More than 300 people have been killed since the crackdown began at the end of February.

Railroads urge early grain movement to ease harvest strain

Kansas farmers face a looming record grain surplus as back-to-back bumper wheat harvests overload elevators. The Kansas Feed and Grain Association warns of a 75 million bushel storage shortfall after this fall’s harvest, with thousands of idle rail cars adding pressure.
