Osceola volunteers host annual Firemen supper for families with about 50 attendees. Rural fire board, police department, and dispatchers join as guests. children enjoy fire truck rides. Lions Club plans Ladies Night on October 7 at Aunt Emma’s cafe with district governor Norman Mikkelson as speaker.
Fullerton Bulldogs defeated Osceola 22 to 6 at home. A safety by Lyndon Wieseman and a late 86 yard pass from Tim Mary to Scott Fitzgerald fueled the visitors while Osceola’s lone touchdown came on a Wieseman rush. Next, Osceola hosts Palmer 0-3-1 Friday.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Solt Funeral Home in Central City for Donzella Anna Engel 81 who died Friday at Litzenberg Hospital. Survivors include daughter Mrs E V Wieseman and three grandchildren Mrs Steve Darling of Wisner Daylene Mautz of Lincoln and Buddy Mautz.
Shelby's Don Augustin triumphs in last week's Arm chair Quarterback contest with 12 correct entries. Seven contestants tied with 11 correct as readers struggled most with the Clarks Wolbach tilt. Football scores include Albion over Ord 21 7 and Central City 21 Grand Island CC0 among others.

WIFE urges residents to request blanks and notes upcoming convention in Sidney October 28 29 30 with preregistration by October 5. County WIFE meets October 6 at Osceola American Legion.
A pair of 1883 letters recount family life in Osceola. Daisy writes of pets, school, farming details, cheese making, and a sick grandmother while her sister Mary narrates court, a lost money letter, sunstroke illness, and daily work. She notes plot of crops, hay hauling, and fruit orders as Daisy reads aloud to Dad Hills.
The Federal Land Bank Association hosts a dinner and panel in Columbus at Scotus Memorial Hall with David City farmer John Klosterman and Omaha retailer Allan Noddle discussing food prices. Eunice Bevan moderates as questions follow after their talks. The evening includes a prime rib dinner at 7 p.m. and a brief business meeting with annual reports and director elections. The bank reports 210 loans totaling over 17 million and 1310 loans outstanding over 50 million, up 12 million from last year.
The USDA raises loan rates for barley corn oats rye and sorghum effective immediately. New rates: barley 1.63 per bushel corn 2.00 oats 1.03 rye 1.70 sorghum 1.90 (3.39 per cwt) with prior 1976 figures listed. Acting Secretary John C White cites a severe cost price squeeze for farmers and ASCS administers the program. Producers may obtain additional disbursement by contacting their county ASCS office.
Osceola High School senior Kim Boden daughter of Meredith and Vernon Boden was chosen to represent Osceola in the 1977 Harvest of Harmony queen contest in Grand Island. She will register Friday with other contestants as crowds gather for crowning Friday night and the Grand Island parade Saturday.
Floyd Marsh manager of the Upper Big Blue NRD submitted his resignation to the board Thursday night and the board accepted it. He offered to work until next spring to aid his successor and has served as NRD manager since its establishment.
The Community Calendar lists meetings and events in late September and early October including Firemen’s meeting October 3, Mental Health Scouts October 4, Legion events October 6 at 8 p.m., City Council October 1 at 7 30 p.m., and Lions Ladies Night dinner. Tim Bachenberg and other youths attended a Fremont rally planning session with Julie Jarmin Sabine Watts Terri Jo Hansen Dale Drager and Rever end Bachenberg.
