Midland student earns alumni scholarship and praises mother
Anita Peter son of Milton and Anita Peter of Osceola is profiled as one of six Midland alumni scholarship recipients for 1971-72. She credits her English teacher mother for inspiring her to become a teacher and notes her own leadership roles at Benton Hall and Delta Tau. The county road near the fair grounds is being resurfaced by the Wieses with oiling planned this fall. Conservation tour records farm practices and poll by county
A 57 mile four hour conservation tour on September 15 observed fifteen Polk County farms and various practices.Participants from ASCS Extension and SCS plus boards and IFYE student from Botswana accompanied by area staff noted flood control, terraces, water pits, waste management and tree planting. Particular focus fell on Gerald Bryan’s livestock waste management system addressing feedlot pollutants.

Auxiliary begins new year with Sept 17 meeting
Twenty four members attended the fall Legion Auxiliary meeting at the club rooms on Friday September 17. Mrs Richard Wyman led as president and reports were given by chairmen and past president Mrs Robert Wiese man. A December meeting was planned and a sick room equipment list for Polk County residents was announced for next week's Record. Quilt scraps and sewing materials were requested for various projects. Yearbooks should be ready for October distribution.

More than 300 delegates attend the District VII American Legion and Auxiliary convention in Dodge on Sunday September 19 with Maynard Jensen Aurora Department Commander and Mary Bradley Howells Nebraska as highlights. Osceola hosts 1972 convention. several Legionnaires and Auxiliary members participated in an all day meeting and events, including Shrine Dinner attended by 120 at Ryan Hill Country Club.
