Polk County Womans Club Executive Committee postponed the annual fall convention due to gas rationing and other conditions. A fund was approved to buy magazines for the Fairmont, Harvard, and Bruning army bases, and local clubs will contribute games to be sent to the bases.
District No 18 residents Mr and Mrs Arthur Mayberger and Mr and Mrs Ralph Coffin visited Oma ha with the Enyearts. Phil Micek and James Gonkai spent a day in St Paul. Leo Lassek returned from Oma ta visiting the Bill Lassek home. Jake Reisdorff visited relatives in Colorado. Edward Lisko visited Columbus relatives. John Micek and Phil and James Gonkaut were guests in the John Wilczewski home near Columbus.

Wallace Huddleston entered the hospital Tuesday due to a severe arm infection.
Mr and Mrs George Ebel and family with relatives from Bellwood enjoyed Sunday dinner at the Leonard Hiemer home. Altar Society studies were held at Mrs R R Urban's home. The Hiemers and Dennis visited the Richters, and the Glatter and Hiemer families called on the Krumbach home.
The Polk County AAA reports 14 loan rejections due to moisture and weevil as farmers secure wheat loans under the Crop Insurance plan. First loan by Paul Y. Bond covered 185 bushels at 1.27 per bushel. largest loan to Guildford Bryan of Osceola for 1504 bushels. On farm No 1 wheat sealed at 1.35 per bushel. Parity checks over 25,000 received. two checks due this year with the conservation check coming later. Checks come from Kansas City.

Osceola topped Clarks 19 to 0 at Morningside Field to earn its first football victory of the season as part of the H S schedule noting dates at Silver Creek Stromsburg Polk and Goldenrod Conference venues through November 22.
Freshmen were initiated by seniors on Friday with many students observing. The day ended with the first High School Mixer where the freshmen received the final part of their initiation.

Miss Mary Rose Kosch daughter of Mr and Mrs William Kosch Shelby wed Wayne I L Schmid of Bellwood in a Sacred Heart high mass ceremony. Rev M A O Boyle officiated. Attendants included Loyola Kosch Virleen Kosch and Robert McMeekin. Reception for about 60 followed. The couple plan to reside on a Bellwood area farm.
Polk County sets a campaign quota of 4285 dollars for the next War Fund drive to begin in October with Rev. Bexell of Osceola serving as publicity chairman.
Bently Brown, Osceola native and base duty member, witnessed the Norfolk Virginia naval base explosion last Friday morning. The blast killed about 80 naval personnel and civilians with over 250 injured as 500 depth charges exploded destroying much of the facility. Another Osceola alumnus, Dean Deland, also present, escaped unharmed.
