About 80 friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Gustafson near Clarks on Sunday to honor their 25th anniversary. Guests included Mrs. Charley Biggs Mrs. Oscar Pearson and Mrs. Charlie Hoffer who helped serve. The cake and refreshments were arranged with a three tier angel food cake and gift table. Jim Brazee son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brazee entered Hastings College this week to major in mathematics next year.

Cattle truck crash near Bernts stall injures cattle
At the Main Street and Highway 30 intersection in Shelby a cattle truck from Riverdale crashed into Ernest Lees’s car. The truck struck a telephone pole, killing one head and crippling two others, while the drivers and Lees suffered only minor injuries.

Polk County AAA reports feeding wheat available at $1.08 at the CCC bin or $1.06 if bought on farm. The 1943 canning season ends as Polk County records 14065 bushels lost under the wheat crop insurance plan. Committee member Herman A. $15 Million War Plant To Rise In Columbus
A fifteen million dollar aluminum extrusion factory will be built in Columbus by Anaconda Alloys, a subsidiary of Anaconda Copper and American Brass. Construction starts immediately on the Gottschalk property near Highway 30 and the Columbus airport. The plant will employ about 1700 people and create a permanent industry, placing Polk County in a defense area and freezing rents as of March 1, 1942. Senator Wherry announced Defense Plant Corporation approval of the allocation for heavy machinery and equipment.
