Emil A. Boostrom died at his home in Stromsburg at 6 07 Saturday morning after a long illness. He was a renowned educator, botanist, and scholar from Illinois to Nebraska, held Osceola and Stromsburg school superintendent posts, and left a widow Beble Boostrom and son Neal. Funeral services are set for 2 pm Tuesday at the Stromsburg home, with Rev. A Weatherly presiding and a quartet providing music. burial will follow in Stromsburg Cemetery.
The Ben Hur initiation will add seven new members this Saturday night with another initiation planned soon after. The organization is arranging a banquet and entertainment for September 30 under the direction of Mrs Johnson, with J J Cassidy district president for Colorado and Nebraska visiting the city.
Wednesday night program at the Auditorium features Vaudéville and Pyctures. A brief showcase presents acts and images in a local entertainment slot with likely variety acts.
H. L. Crouse, longtime employee of Polk County Telephone Co, will leave Osceola October first to move to Surprise where he has been elected secretary of the Surprise Telephone Co. The Crouses made many friends in Osceola and wish for success in the new field of labor.

W H Kelley handles the build. Several residents traveled, visited, or built homes, while weather brought 3 inch rain and wind with damage near Rising City and a reported death west of David City.

Mer Musselman has booked A Modern Cinderella for one performance on Thursday September 28 at the Opera House. The musical comedy modernizes the Cinderella tale with chorus girls, humorous book and lyrics, and catchy music that leaves audiences humming.
The Polk Celebration marks the ninth anniversary of Polk's founding with a two day event. A full bill of fare is promised for attendees and past entertainments show they will attract crowds yet again.
