The 1976 Nebraska State Fair reports record crowds, expanded facilities, and a strong line of entertainment. Arthur Senkbeil wins nine first place ribbons in the flower show while a Saturday wedding at the museum grounds draws Historic Society attention.
Osceola 4-H Challengers win a third straight 1000 prize from Colgate Palmolive in the Help Young America contest. Members entered were Mike Bryan Paul Hennings John Lux Mike Sigler and Mike Veclik with Lucille Veclik as leader. Proceeds support 4-H programs in the county and state.
Osceola hosts Genoa in 1976 opener as Dan Bond returns a 60 yard punt for a TD for the Bulldogs. Ken Dubas connects on two passes to Tom Czapla and Tom Ramaekers for Genoa. The Orioles add a two point conversion after Genoa’s score.
Polk County 4 H State Fair results announced from Lincoln late Monday night with livestock ribbons and judging and song contest placements. The report notes more activities planned and completion next week. Names include Lester Hullinger Mark Rosenquist Lori Rosenquist Tony Hullinger Scott Rosenquist and clubs Debettes and Sugar and Spice with red and blue ribbons in various categories.
Enrollment in Osceola public schools rose slightly with 426 students registered for the 1976 1977 term, up from 424 last year. Superintendent Kenneth Sipes reported after the first week, highlighting class groups and judging entries led by Joel Carlson and Amy Jo Lemkau among many 4 H projects and club activities at the fairgrounds cleanup by the Debettes Club participants.

Also band class display announcement for September 14 for sixth graders.
Veteran contestant Mrs Glenn I Anderson captured the first Armchair Quarterback contest of the 1976 season with 11 correct games and a tie breaker within seven yards of Osceola total rushing in the opener against Genoa. Close followers included Mrs Carlstrom Craig Baker C Gordon Carlson and Joel Carlson who each missed four. Scores used spanned Columbus Papillion Fremont Hastings Seward David City Wood River Fullerton Genoa Osceola Stromsburg Sutton Palmer Cedar Rapids St Edward Clarks Silver Creek Polk Shelby Benedict Aurora Albion Lakeview Hartington CC Schuyler Scotus Holdrege Minden.
The ceremony took place Saturday at the museum church as the bride wore an old fashioned wheat colored gown with a high neck full sleeves and lace trim. She carried a nosegay. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Jary Morgan of Tekamah.
