Vet student Merle Miller to study at Curtis Agricultural School

Merle Miller of Lexington plans to study Veterinary Science at the Agricultural School in Curtis. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Si Cook and formerly lived with the Robert Millers in Osceola. Forty former neighbors of Mr and Mrs Martin Jones held a wiener roast and watermelon feed in the Jones Watershed pasture on Wednesday evening August 27 with some youngsters fishing in the pond.

Kindergarten Class Begins at Jeffrey Grade School

The Class of 1983 starts first grade with 37 pupils at Jeffrey Grade School. Morning class has 17 students and afternoon group has 20 students under Mrs. Neola Anderson.

Margaret Peterson Receives Ceres Club Scholarship

Margaret Peterson of Osceola is awarded the $100 Ceres Club Scholarship by the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture and Home Economics. Peterson, a junior majoring in food and nutrition, will become a therapeutic dietician after graduation and also holds an upper class Regents Scholarship.

Polk County Recreational Assoc and Valley View Club Reach Reciprocal Use

The Polk County Recreational Assoc. and Valley View Country Club establish a reciprocal agreement enabling members to use each other’s facilities with dining privileges and golf upon green fees. Osceola Development Corp. elects new officers for the coming year led by Mike Snodgrass as president and Phil Nyberg as vice president with Jay McDonald as treasurer and Martin Roberts as secretary. Polk County Republican Women postpone their Sept. 8 meeting indefinitely and Bean Days events proceed with free beans, barbecue beef, and a chicken barbecue on Saturday. Kimmel Street designated as one-way from south to north for access between the grade school and high school. Mrs Gregg Johnson hired as new clerk at Bush Drug replacing Mrs John Cerny.
