Barry Hanson captured first in the junior event with a 39 score, six over par, at the Polk County Country Club. Seven competitors shared prizes across categories. Byron Nelson had the next best score, while Steve Monson Lindley Lamb Brian Hanson Dale Roehrs and Scott Walgren earned various honors. Dr. Wallace Monson Low ell Hanson and Raymond Kepner organized the event.
A Northern Natural Gas crew from Hooper Nebraska rolled into Osceola to fill large cylinders from the main line. The work prepared for shutting off the line to replace an old pipe joint near Morris Tonn farm east of the hospital.
The Class of 69 shows 75 percent pursuing higher education with many heading to Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska. Students report future studies in engineering, education, veterinary science, and business at campuses including Milford, Curtis, Lincoln, and Columbus.
Six members of Boy Scout Troop 162 Osceola joined two day camping at Twin Rivers State Park near Venice. Participants listed include Dan Daily Steve Johnson Shane Conrad Kevin Marsh David Odgers and Mike Smith with Assistant Scoutmaster Gary Conrad. New members sought. all eleven years or older invited. Webelos urged to join. troop meets 7 30 at park cabin. A Board of Review will be held next Monday night to pass on boys who completed requirements for new rank.
Hodgman Sprain Roberts Mortuary staff in Lincoln hosted a dinner Friday evening August 15 at the Lincoln Elks Club to honor Joe Roberts before he leaves Wednesday for military duty. Guests included his parents Mr and Mrs Martin Roberts.
Dorothy Runquist daughter of Mr and Mrs Merle Runquist of Osceola Iowa completed studies at Stewart School of Cosmetology in Council Bluffs Iowa on July 30. She received her Iowa license and is applying for reciprocity to practice in Nebraska.
Osceola Public Schools announce the first official day of classes on September 2 with the new daily timetable. Doors open at 8 30 a m HS classes start 8 40 Eleni classes begin 8 45 lunch 11 30 12 40 elementary start 12 35 HS classes resume 1 60 elementary end 3 35 HS end 3 40 kindergarten 8 50 11 30 and 1 10 3 35.
Osceola clinched its final regular game Sunday night in Genoa, batter Marion Bernt earning the win with Grossnicklaus catching. Genoa’s battery was Miller and Frazier as Osceola finished 6 runs on 5 hits to Genoa’s 3. The result ends the season unless a non league game is added.
Morris Richards Max Simon sen Leonard Mrkvicka Bob Grossnicklaus and Charles Ku cera split the District 19 school bus route once driven by Harold Jarmin. New driver Tom Hofbauer will take the north portion of Morris Richards route and part of Max Simonsen’s route. Grossnicklaus remains on the Kindergarten run from about 11 30 a m to 1 15 p m.
The Polk County local board sent two registrants to Omaha on August 20 for induction into the Armed Forces. Joe Roberts of Osceola and Bradley Sundberg of Polk enlisted. Three registrants reported for physical examination on the same day, returning to Osceola in the late afternoon. The September call lists nine for induction and twelve for physical examination on September 23.
Osceola Lions Club met at noon for a dinner at City Hall. President Gerhard Ahrens chaired the meeting and the club voted to buy an oxygen adapter for use in the Osceola ambulance. They discussed a $55 per member appropriation for the Light Conservation Clinic in Omaha and planned a trap shoot for Sept 21 at the Fair Grounds.
Dr. and Mrs. Donald Jensen and family left Bloomington Indiana for Lincoln where Dr. Jensen will teach at the University. Mrs. Jensen is the former Janet Kepner.
