Eastern Star chapters of Clarks Stromsburg Polk Silver Creek and Osceola welcomed 1954 Grand Officers of the Nebraska order for a buffet at the Osceola auditorium on October 14. Highlights included speeches by Zelma Megrue Marlin O Trindel and Jane Owens. Local officers Mary Eklund and Kenneth Stewart noted roles with Martha Wilma Samson noted as a former Osceola resident.

The Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Hospital bids for building plumbing and electrical work will be opened November 4 at the Osceola courthouse. The process will be supervised by architect Ellery Davis with bids read aloud. Dedication for Highway 92 west of Osceola may follow completion around November 2 pending weather and governor Crosby's participation.
Mr and Mrs Fred Bond attended the IOOF Grand Lodge Grand Encampment at the 97th session in Norfolk along with Martin Roberts on Wednesday. The Bonds stayed overnight with Martins parents during their visit to the city.
The Fair Board at Polk County Fairgrounds announces a public auction on Thursday November 11 to raise funds for completing a county fair building. Proceeds aid construction while the building will be offered to groups for meetings at a nominal charge. Donors may contact the Fair Board or President Albert Ryan.
The 1955 Chevrolet lineup is on display at Johnsons Chevrolet in Osceola. Three new cars are shown with a pickup expected. The shop suspends normal work for the afternoon and evening to welcome visitors. Free coffee and doughnuts served from noon to 9 p.m. Public invited to see the new model.
Osceola Volunteer Fire Department holds its regular meeting at the legion building this Thursday October 28 to discuss routine business and ensure all members attend.
Officers training meetings for new officers of area clubs are set for November 8 at Mrs Don Lintons home with attendees from Clear Creek Lone Star North Shelby and the Shelby Project Club. The November 15 session at the Court House includes Busy Belles Friends and Neighbors Happy Hour Osceola Project Maple Leaf Wesley Chapel Usharit and T C Project Clubs. November 16 at the REA building Stromsburg will host Friendly Families Golden Rod Jolly Workers O N C Stromsburg Project and Swede Home Project. Meetings begin at 2 00 p m.
Miss Mildred Craven and Miss Ruth Gordon of Kansas City Kansas visited the George and John Craven homes for a weekend stay, with the pair described as guests in the article.
State Engineer L N Ross clarifies the Nebraska gas tax distribution 2c to the Federal government 2.4c to counties and 3.4c to the State Highway Department. The department does not set construction standards for county or secondary roads, acting as a liaison with the Bureau of Public Roads. Federal aid secondary funds require a 50 50 state county match for road projects the counties can economically maintain.
Osceola football defeated Clarks 20 to 13 after trailing 13 to 0 at halftime. Grossnicklaus Bernt and Vaughn Mickey scored, with Bernt’s 65 yard run and a blocked punt turning the game. Osceola piled up 223 rushing yards and 49 passing yards for 272 total, while key line play and defense sealed the victory.
William Gonka of Columbus plans a modern ranch type motel at the northeast corner of Osceola. Dirt work will start soon, weather will decide further construction, brick building with eight units and future expansions.

Announcement last week reports Elmer Johnson, brother of Marlin Johnson, becoming partner in the firm to be owned and run by the Johnson brothers. The new partner, recently released from four years in the Air Force, has rented the island house and the family plans a move to Osceola. The household includes Mrs. Johnson and one daughter. Before his service, he worked in school programs and taught music.
